Happy New Year!

What a nice way to end a great year. Courtney planned a 'boys' only night at his place for Trevor, Tylor, Zach, Nathan and Cameron, where they all ate junk food, rocked out to Guitar Hero and played video games until well into 2008. Ashley spent the night parting at her friend Bridget’s house. So for the first time in a very long time John and I found ourselves childless on New Years Eve.

We decided not to attend the annual neighborhood parties or fight the restaurant crowds and instead opted to have a nice quiet dinner at home and it was fabulous...if I do say so myself. We had fillet mignon, roasted garlic and parmesan red potatoes, green beans, a green salad and garlic bread all by candle light. Then to top it off I surprised John with some yummy individual desserts...fruit topped cheese cake for me and molten chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream for him. After dinner we decided to brave the bitter cold wind and hit the theater to see "I am Legend" which was a little too suspenseful for my taste but overall a good movie. We ended our great night with a quick stop at Courtney's to check on the boys...who were having an absolute blast, then we headed to our quiet home, spent a little time playing with Jack, watched the ball drop, kissed each other at midnight and fell asleep at 12:02.

2007 was a truly fantastic year for our family...it started off a little rocky for me but quickly turned around with the start of my new job in January. The rest of the year was awesome and went by way too fast. I can only pray that 2008 is just as good if not better for our family.

The following pretty much sums up my New Years resolutions for 2008, just substitute "I would" with "I will" (with exception to the pregnancy part...we already 'fixed' that one).

IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER by Erma Bombeck

I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner, even if the carpet was stained and the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the 'good' living room and worried much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather ramble about his youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television - and more while watching life.
I would have shared more of the responsibility carried by my husband.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick instead of pretending the earth would go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show soil, or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was my only chance in life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love you’s’’ more "I'm sorry’s"... but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute...look at it and really see it... Live it...and never give it back.

Don't forget to stop and smell the roses today!
Take time to tell a loved one how much you love them, do something nice for yourself, and stop to give God thanks for all of it.
